Berkshire Bounty is a food pantry organized by the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Our church participates in that every Thursday one of us, or a team of two, picks up surplus food from several businesses and delivers it to organizations serving needy people.
Volunteers from our church deliver the food to the Redfield House, Barton Crossing, the Elizabeth Freeman Center, Our Friends House and the Salvation Army. Many other groups and individuals participate in this program, picking up daily from different businesses and organizations and delivering to a variety of agencies.
According to the Red Cross, Berkshire Bounty has picked up and delivered more than 150,000 pounds of food a year. That’s 75 tons!
